- Home Of Swallows-
Artist: Shirin Wong
Home of Swallows is an art piece reflecting the relationship between human beings and nature. Urban dwellers seem to lose the connection with nature, so Shirin hopes to rebuild this connection through her work. In this picture, the semicirculars and the surrounding arc lines represent swallows’ nests and the process of building them. They pick up muds, grass, along with their saliva, painstakingly build homes for their offsprings. But the nests are not their only home, so are lands, rivers, leaves and nature as a whole. Poet Gary Snyder once wrote “Nature is not a place to visit. It is home.” We can imagine ourselves as one of the swallows, flying in the sky, overlooking lands, going towards the same direction as our fellows, but still remembering a place called home.
